Shrewsbury/East Dennis – Michael Mauro Monopoli, 74, of Shrewsbury and East Dennis, passed unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. He was the son of Luke and Catherine (Betti) Monopoli.
He is survived by Susan (Wright) Monopoli, his beloved wife of 52 years; his son Mark Monopoli and his wife Gretchen, and their two children, Annalise and Michael; and his daughter Amy and her husband Matthew Giles.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury. He graduated from St. John’s High School class of 1966, attained his bachelor’s degree from The College of the Holy Cross in 1970, and then attained his law degree from Suffolk University Law School, in 1974. He worked as an attorney in Worcester for over forty years.
For those who knew him, Mike was a force of nature. He was an outstanding trial attorney who devoted himself to the practice of law, and he was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a sharp wit with a great sense of humor and was a funny and engaging storyteller. Mike loved to share a cup of coffee or a good meal with family and friends. Mike also had a soft spot for animals and was a devoted dog owner.
Despite his many years as an attorney, Mike liked to work with his hands and enjoyed spending his free time doing landscaping work and other projects around his home. Mike also enjoyed spending time at the beach at East Dennis and created many wonderful memories with his family and friends there. Mike was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Monday, March 21, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice. In accordance with Mike’s wishes, private funeral services will be held.
