Maria de Conceicao MonteiroHudson – Maria de Conceicao (Chaves) Monteiro, 85, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, with her loving family by her side. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 40 years, Antonio F. Monteiro and her daughter, Rita M. Monteiro.

Maria was one of seven children of the late Jose M. and Filomena (Puim) DeChaves. She was born in Espirito Santo, Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, on November 14, 1936 and was raised and completed her education there. She eventually immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in 1959, where she resided for 8 years before immigrating to Hudson, MA. Maria helped support her family working in several electronics manufacturing companies as an assembler, before eventually retiring. A lifelong devout catholic, she was a longtime member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson. Maria also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was an avid traveler and especially loved returning to her home in the Azores.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Maria M. Flannery and her husband Kevin of Hudson; 5 siblings, Herculano M. Chaves and his spouse Helena of RI, Jose M. Chaves and his spouse Zulmira of RI, Tony M. Chaves and his spouse Helen of Hudson, MA, Albert M. Chaves and his spouse Filomena of Hudson, MA and Jose A. Chaves and his spouse Rita of Hudson, MA; three grandchildren, Ian P. Flannery of Nashville, TN; Meghan E. Flannery and her husband Patrick Grogan and their daughter Story Faye Grogan of Boston, MA; Colin J. Flannery and his fiance Kara Joyce of Waltham, MA. She was predeceased by her sister, Filomena Casavecchia.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5-7PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9AM on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA. Burial will be private at a later time.
