REGION – A storm dropped a batch of hail on parts of the region early Saturday afternoon, surprising some amid a day of scattered spring storms.

The National Weather Service’s Boston office warned early on Saturday that storms moving through the region could produce small hail particularly in the afternoon.

The NWS then issued specific warnings beginning around 12:30 p.m. for individual clusters of severe weather that could drop hail.

Hail specifically rolled through Hudson just before 2 p.m., piling pea-sized precipitation on surfaces over a brief period of time.

Similar reports have documented hail elsewhere across the region and the state.

A warning encompassing Hudson, Marlborough, Westborough and Southborough was due to remain in place until 2:30 p.m.

Forecasters have predicted the general pattern of on-and-off storms to let up later in the  afternoon.
