MARLBOROUGH – The Marlborough Democratic City Committee’s spring collection drive for the Marlborough Community Cupboard will also collect funds to donate to Ukrainian children later this week.

The spring drive, which will be held at the Navin Arena lower parking lot on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will collect food, personal items and funds for the Cupboard. It will also collect either cash or checks to donate to Ukrainian children through the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). Checks can be made out to either UNICEF or the committee.

This effort comes as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues more than a month after it began on Feb. 24.

“We thought our quarterly drive to help area residents would be a good time to collect funds to help the children of Ukraine through this terrible ordeal,” Committee Chairman Dan Caruso said in a press release. “We may only be able to make a small impact, but we as a committee feel it is important to stand up and be counted.”

The Democratic City Committee holds four drives each year. Needed items for this drive include children’s items like diapers and wipes, basic cooking items and canned goods.
