Joseph H. MoineauMarlborough – Joseph (Joe) H. Moineau, 86 of Marlborough, MA, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at UMass Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Marlborough, the son of the late Hubert J. and Delia (Levelle) Moineau. He graduated from St. Viter’s High School in Marlborough, Class of ’54 and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Class of ’58.

After working for several years at Marlboro Wire Goods, Joe founded Automatic Specialties Inc. along with his father and brother. He owned and operated the business with his family for over 50 years before retiring in 2019. Joe designed and manufactured many products, but his proudest achievement was the invention of the Guardian Angel Window Guard, a safety device to prevent falls from open windows. With sales of upwards of one million units, Joe’s invention has prevented countless serious injuries and deaths.

Joe served as a Marlborough City Councilman, was a member of the Board of Directors for Marlborough Co-Op Bank and was a past President and active member of both the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years. Joe was involved in the development and construction of the New England Sports Center, the Solomon Pond Mall, and the Maple Street Fire Department Building. He was a devout member and active parisioner of St. Mary’s Parish in Marlborough and then St. Bernadette’s Parish in Northborough.

Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Claudette J. (Martin) Moineau of Marlborough; his son, Joseph Moineau Jr. of Bolton, MA; 2 daughters, Sandra Moineau of Florida, Jane Busby and her husband, Pastor Jeff, of Boylston, MA; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Skinner, Shaun Tarves and his wife Stephanie, Danielle Robichaud, and Charles J. Moineau currently enlisted in the U.S. Army; 3 great-grandchildren, Haley, Katelyn, and Alex; his sister, Marie Rouse of New York, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Joshua Strange, in 2007 and a brother, Wilfred Moineau, in 2018.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bernadette’s Parish, 266 Main St., Northborough, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 18 from 6-8 p.m. in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.
