WESTBOROUGH – Fifth grade students at Westborough’s Mill Pond Elementary School were treated to a multimedia, living history lesson about Christa McAuliffe, the Teachers in Space program and the space shuttle last week, viewing a presentation put on with support from a number of area organizations.

Convening on April 14, students watched Judith Kalaora perform “Challenger: Soaring with Christa McAuliffe,” which pays homage to McAullife.

McAullife grew up in nearby Framingham and was selected as the first teacher to fly with NASA’s Teacher in Space program.

She was then killed, though, when the Challenger Shuttle exploded shortly after takeoff.

Approved by members of McAullife’s family, Soaring with Christa McAuliffe tells McAuliffe’s life story as part of the History at Play series of living history performances.

The show came to Westborough with support from the Westborough Historical Society, to coincide with ongoing social studies lessons on the 1960s and 70s.

The Westborough Women’s Club and the George F Sybil H. Fuller Foundation provided additional funding.
