MARLBOROUGH – A fire in a home on Church Street in Marlborough caused significant damage on Wednesday morning.

That damage was contained to the first floor of the home, though, and there were no injuries reported after what firefighters described as a quick knockdown.

First reports of the fire came in just after 9 a.m. Marlborough Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, Engine 5, Rescue 1 and Ladder 2 responded, along with Car 5 and Car 3.

The Southborough Fire Department and Patriot EMS also responded.

Once on scene, firefighters reported flames blowing out of a window on the side of the house and burning onto the roof of an outdoor porch. Fire was also extending to the attic soffit, with smoke coming out of the eaves of the attic.

The crew of Ladder 2 opened up the roof to vent smoke in coordination with an interior attack by engine companies.

Marlborough Assistant Chief Jeff Gogan spoke after the fire, crediting his personnel for their efforts.

“The guys made an excellent stop and saved the house,” he said.

Acting Battalion Chief Eric Christensen similarly echoed Gogan’s statements.

“The fire could have been a lot worse,” he said.

The all out was declared at 12:29 p.m.

Two residents were displaced due to this fire, according to a fire department statement on social media.

An investigation is ongoing into the blaze’s cause and origin.

Damage estimates had not been determined as of Wednesday afternoon.
