WESTBOROUGH – Injuries from a serious motorcycle crash in Westborough on Wednesday are “significant” but believed to be non-life threatening, according to the Westborough Police Department.

The department shared this update in a statement on Friday, offering additional details on the crash, which took place at the intersection of Route 9 and Lyman Street in town.

A motorcycle was traveling eastbound just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, police said, when witnesses reportedly saw it and an SUV collide.

The SUV had been turning from the westbound lanes of Route 9 onto Lyman Street, according to police.

Suffering “significant injuries,” the motorcyclist was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

The crash prompted traffic delays in the area throughout the afternoon on Wednesday, as emergency crews secured the scene and brought in accident reconstruction personnel.

The incident remained under investigation as of Friday afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Cliff Luce of the Westborough Police Department and Officer Isaiah Poxon of the Upton Police Department were conducting the investigation in their roles with the CEMLEC Accident Reconstruction Unit.
