SHREWSBURY – A fire sent smoke billowing over Flint Pond in Shrewsbury earlier this week, reportedly causing thousands of dollars in damage to “property and equipment.”

It all stemmed, according to the Shrewsbury Fire Department, from unauthorized burning in a waste barrel that got out of control.

Photos shared with a fire department statement on social media show heavy flames and smoke rising from a property on Anglin Lane in town.

Splitting off Route 20 near the Shrewsbury/Worcester border, Anglin Lane juts down a short peninsula on the shores of Flint Pond.

The fire department on Friday reminded community members that burning season has ended.

Burning will not be allowed until Jan. 15 of next year.
