SHREWSBURY – Students from St. Mary School got a moment on the proverbial big stage this past weekend when they sang the National Anthem prior to a Worcester Red Sox game at Polar Park in Worcester on Sunday.

The school chorus is led by Ann Tomashefsky.

Sunday marked “Shrewsbury Day” at Polar Park. Part of a series of “town takeover” events spotlighting area communities around Worcester, Shrewsbury Day put the spotlight on Worcester’s Lake Quinsigamond neighbor.

A portion of ticket sales benefited Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services.

St. Mary School, which is located on Summer Street in town, likewise, offered another local connection.

The WooSox’s Town Takeover initiative continues, in the meantime, with a number of communities set to get their own day in the limelight. Locally, that schedule includes a Grafton Day event set for June 25.
