REGION – The nineteenth annual Sharon Timlin Memorial Event: A Race to Cure ALS will be held on June 18.

The event, a 5K race held both virtually and in-person at Hopkinton High School, will raise funds to benefit The Angel Fund for research on ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, at the UMass Chan Medical School.

Scaled back in recent years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is back in-person this year.

The registration fee is $45 for in-person participants and $25 for virtual participants. Registration is available online at sharontimlinrace.org. Checks payable to The Angel Fund can also be sent to The Timlin Race, 149 Wood Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748. Registration cannot be done on the day of the race.

The 5K race begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the family fun day activities with live music, food, games, raffles, silent auction, Kids’ Run and other activities from 8:30 to 12 p.m.

The race, held in honor of Sharon Timlin, has raised over $2 million since its first running. Timlin was the wife of former Red Sox relief pitcher Mike Timlin and died of ALS in March 2002 after being diagnosed in May 2001.
