Margaret P. ValcourNorthbridge – Margaret Patricia (Condon) Valcour, 85, beloved wife of 65 years and adored mother, gently and peacefully shuffled off this mortal coil on Wednesday, June 1, in the presence of her husband and children. She rejoins her parents James Condon and Margaret Mahoney, her treasured son, Steven Patrick, her brother James Condon, her sister Eleanor Durant, and the many others now passed whom she blessed with her love, her gentle grace, her wry, witty humor and her deep compassion.

Margaret was born on June 3, 1936, in Lowell Massachusetts. She was the namesake of her mother, who died when Margaret was only twelve years old. Thus began a life centered on caring for others as she focused on her father and siblings in the aftermath of that tragic loss. After high school, Margaret graduated from the Catherine Laboure School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.

Margaret married Henry Charles Valcour, Jr., in 1957. Margaret turned her energies to her husband and creating her own family.  Margaret and Henry brought six children into this world:  Henry Charles III, Benedict, Steven Patrick, Daniel Paul, Denise Marie, and Eric Condon. After some travels around the United States, Margaret and Henry settled in Southborough, MA, in 1966 and raised their family there before eventually retiring to Northbridge, MA. All of Margaret’s children adored her and reflected back to her the love and fierce loyalty she always showered upon them, their spouses, and the sixteen grandchildren she treasured.

As her children grew up, Margaret returned to nursing. She worked in elder care facilities and then settled into a job she loved: serving as a nurse at the Fay School in Southborough. Part of her job was to be something of a surrogate mother to some of the young kids who boarded there. Sometimes the medicine she administered was a sympathetic ear, a kind voice and a gentle touch.

Margaret and Henry shared many adventures in their 65 years together. They sailed the coast of New England, the Caribbean Islands and even the coast of Greece. They traveled around the United States and the world. They lived a glorious life together, celebrating the good times and holding each other up in the tough times.

Margaret had the soul of an artist: she wrote poetry and played the piano. She was a voracious reader and a profound thinker. It was delightful to share time and space with her. Her life made this world a better place. We will all miss Margaret deeply.

Those who remain to carry on Margaret’s legacy include her husband Henry Charles Valcour, Jr., her son Henry Charles Valcour III, his wife Ying and their daughters Victoria and Deanna, her son Benedict Valcour, his wife Mary Ellen and their daughters Megan and Molly, her son Daniel Valcour, his wife Julianna and their sons Nicholas, Daniel Jr., Henry IV and Samuel, her daughter Denise Tatsis, her husband George and their children Christos, Noelle and Charles, and her son Eric, his wife Rachel and their sons Jonah and Luke. Margaret was predeceased by her son Steven Valcour.

Margaret’s family wishes to thank the Skilled Nursing and Hospice teams at the Overlook in Charlton for their care and support during a challenging time.

Her funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 14, at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon St. Upton. A fellowship gathering will take place immediately following the Mass in the church hall. Burial in Rural Cemetery, Southborough, will take place privately at a later date. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Margaret’s favorite charities:  The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization at www.dav.org.
