Hudson – José Antonio Travassos Cabral, 80, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Marlborough Hospital, after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Maria Fatima (Oliveira) Cabral.

José Antonio was born in Vila Do Porto, Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal on September 12, 1941, a son of the late Antonio Joaquim and Maria Idalina (Travassos) Cabral. He was raised in Santa Maria and after completing his education, he moved to Sao Miguel to work for his late Uncle. He eventually immigrated to Hudson in 1965. In 1966  he returned to Sao Miguel to marry his wife and best friend, Fatima. Two years later, in 1968, Fatima immigrated to the United States to join José in Hudson where, together, they raised their two children. José spent 22 years as an automotive assembler at the General Motors plant in Framingham before he retired in 1990. He then worked for Device Technology, Inc. in Southborough, as a machine operator, before completely  retiring at the age of 73.

José was a longtime member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson. He was an avid soccer enthusiast and a fierce Sporting Soccer Club fan. He also enjoyed swimming, reading, taking vacations and listening to his Portuguese music. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed playing cards together with them.

In addition to his devoted wife Fatima, he is survived by 2 children, (Maria) Clara Swartz and her husband Aaron J. of Grafton, MA and Paul R. Cabral and his wife Jena R. Rotheim of Saratoga Springs, NY; 3 siblings, Natalia Cabral and her husband Humberto of FL, Antoinette Cabral and her husband Antonio of CA, and Lobelia Correia and her husband Miguel of Hudson, MA; 5 grandchildren, Rachel E., Rebecca E., and Sophia R. Swartz, Alexander R. and Samuel R. Cabral and several nieces and a nephew.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 4-7pm on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Saint MIchael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for Committal Services.
