Rimkus: Resident celebrates 90th birthday, resident assigned as joint pastorHUDSON – Hudson resident John Glynn, who turned 90 on June 13th, celebrated  at The Capital Grille in Burlington with his wife, Phyllis Glynn; his son, Jack Glynn and his daughter, Debbi Glynn. 

John has lived in Hudson for 59 years and is a retired employee of the MBTA in Boston. John and Phyllis have two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

A larger party is planned when their two newest great-grandchildren can travel.

Couple celebrates silver anniversary

Hudson residents Brian and Carolyn (Busch) Hawes observed their 25th wedding anniversary on June 21.

They celebrated the event with a family trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Included were their two sons, Bryce Hawes, a 2022 graduate of Vermont Technical College, who recently returned from 10-month deployment with the Vt. Army National Guard in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and Logan Hawes, who recently completed 4th grade at J.L. Mulready School and who will be attending David Quinn Middle School in the fall. Brian is foreman at Sudbury Public Works and Carolyn is director of IT programs at S&P Global.

Resident to begin new pastorates

Hudson resident Stacey Hartford, recently anointed a pastor in the United Methodist Church, has been assigned as joint pastor of Starrett Memorial U.M. Church in Athol, and Richmond Community U.M. in Richmond, New Hampshire. 

A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Hudson, Pastor Stacey spearheaded the COVID Relief program there for 15 months. 

She was anointed on June 11 at the Methodist District Conference by Bishops Easterling and Devodbar. 

A Hudson resident for the past 20 years, she has five sons, one daughter, and grandchildren. 

Pastor Stacey assumes her new posts on July 1. She was honored with a going-away party at the Hudson church by parishioners and friends on June 19.

Communities fundraise to support Ukraine

Brazilian and Portuguese communities of  St. Michael Parish recently raised $11,000 to support refugees in the war-torn country of Ukraine. 

Proceeds were from a brunch for over 350 people served at the Hudson Portuguese Club. The Club forwarded $2500 to the Church in Need organization, and an additional $8500 to World Central Kitchen, which has set up feeding stations in Ukraine as well as in countries to which refugees have fled, including Poland, Austria and Romania.  

Speaker delivers healing message

About forty people attended a healing message by Artie Boyle of Hingham at St. Michael’s Church on June 15. 

Boyle, a popular speaker, experienced a physical healing at the Medjugorje Shrine in southern Bosnia and spoke about how it changed his life.

If lack of a high school diploma is interfering with your career plans, Nancy Tobin, lead teacher at the Hudson Adult Learning Center, invites you to sign up for fall classes at Hudson High School.

Free classes, funded by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, prepare you for the GED/HiSET tests to receive your High School Equivalency. 

Classes are taught at HHS on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. 

Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will be held Monday, Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m. and assessment for class placement will follow at 6 p.m. For more information, call 978-875-2798.

Project Bread receives $11,548

Project Bread received $11,548 pledged to Hudson resident walker Mary Walling. 

She was eighth among the top participants in the annual event. 

Mary and her companion, Betty McMahon, walked for 4.5 hours on the Hudson-Marlborough Rail Trail.

A visit to Lithuania 

Ms. Christine Hilton of Ohio recently visited Lithuania, the homeland of her maternal great-grandparents, the late Bartholomew and Michilena Satas, longtime Hudson residents. 

Christine is the granddaughter of the late Andrew and Edna Riley, former Hudson residents.

Altar servers attend WooSox game

Several St. Michael Parish altar servers, and their families, attended a WooSox/Toledo Mud Hens baseball game June 17th,  at the recently opened Polar Park, Worcester. 

The local team lost, but all were impressed with the new park, and  the game concluded with an impressive fireworks display.
