Mary A. GiorgiMarlborough – Mary A. (Cronin) Giorgi, 79, of Marlborough, finished her long and difficult journey on Thursday, July 21, 2022. She was a warrior, fighting her disease valiantly for many years before God called her home.

Mary was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late Daniel and Cora (Phaneuf) Cronin. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Roche, and brother, Paul Cronin.

Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years, Anthony D. Giorgi of Marlborough; her 5 children, Andrea Giorgi, Francesca Scott and her husband, Theodore, all of Marlborough, Marisa Giorgi Woodford and her husband David of Hudson, David Giorgi and his wife Kristen of Sterling; and Peter Giorgi of Paxton; her 13 grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Melissa, Nicholas, Daria, Dominic, Daniella, Anthony, Ava, Sean, Lindsey, Olivia and Sydney; her great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary grew up in Marlborough, right around the corner from her future husband. She attended IC School, St. Anne’s Academy, and Anna Maria College. She began her teaching career in Milford, alongside her husband, but left to raise her family two years later. In 1985, she returned to teaching in the Marlborough Public Schools for another 15 years. She was an exemplary, well-respected, and inspiring English teacher who would be named “Teacher of the Year” and was selected as an honoree of National Honor Society students year after year.

Her favorite role, though was as a mother and “Nana.” Her children and grandchildren’s #1 fan, Mary could be seen at every event cheering them on. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, soccer coach, and CCD teacher at the former St. Ann Parish. When she could find some time for herself, Mary loved reading anything and everything, listening to John Denver and Neil Diamond, and going for walks with her husband both here in Marlborough and at York Beach, Maine.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Dodge Park Rest Home for the many years of loving care and support for Mary and her family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St., Marlborough.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, July 26 from 4-7 p.m. in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
