Hudson – Grace (MacPhail) Tompkins, 82, a longtime resident of Hudson, MA, died on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis P. Tompkins Jr. who died in 2017.
Grace was born in Boston, MA, daughter of the late Murdoch and Loraine (Geddes) MacPhail. She was raised in Roxbury, MA attending local schools and graduated from Roxbury High School. She married Francis and has resided in Hudson, MA since 1965. She spent time working for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Hudson until she retired.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Christine M. Tompkins of Hudson, MA; her son, Francis P. Tompkins III and his wife Sandy (Mary) of Worcester, MA along with her two grandchildren, Michael Tompkins and Marcos Mendieta. She also leaves behind other relatives and friends.
For many years Grace spent most of her spare time crocheting blankets for family members and friends. She was an avid reader of books, finishing one and moving right into the next book was common. She cherished her family, especially later visiting with her grandchildren. She will always be fondly remembered for her unique personality, the kindness and giving spirit she possessed, her good nature and pleasant presence by all who loved and knew her.
Grace will be buried with her beloved husband Francis in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA. All services will be private at the convenience of the family. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 is assisting the family with arrangements.
