Maria M. ChavesHudson – Maria “Gloria” Monteiro Chaves, 99, of Hudson, MA died at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Gloria leaves her sister, Maria Sousa, wife of the late Jose de Sousa of Hudson, MA; her sister-in-law, Deolinda Monteiro, wife of the late Angelo Monteiro of Canada and her other 8 siblings and spouses who predeceased her, Jose Maria Monteiro and wife Adelina Monteiro, Joao Monteiro and wife Maria Jesus Monteiro, Francisco Monteiro and wife Maria Inez Monteiro, Joe Monteiro and wife Maria Monteiro, Maria Monteiro, Manuel Monteiro Puim and wife Maria Pium, Agostinho Monteiro and Antonio Monteiro. She also leaves her niece and 3 nephews whom she fondly loved as her own children, Fatima Blood and her husband Kenny Blood, Thomas Sousa and his wife Fatima Sousa, Michael Sousa, Nelson Sousa and his wife Liz Sousa; her great nieces and nephews whom she helped raise, Danica and Brady Blood, Corey, Samantha and Andrew Sousa, pium Alexandra and Matthew Sousa along with many other nieces and nephews, several other great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gloria was born in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of Manuel Puim Monteiro and Maria Angelina Monteiro. In 1965 she emigrated to the states to take up residence in Hudson, MA with her sister and husband Maria and Jose de Sousa. She was employed as a machine operator with Arrow Automotive of Hudson and later employed by New England Tape of Hudson, MA until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club, Holy Ghost Festival annual volunteer and member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson, MA. Gloria found true happiness in her life living with her sister and family in Hudson and also assisting in the care of the home and raising her nieces and nephews and their children.

In her spare time Gloria enjoyed baking and sitting outside watching all the people who would pass by. She enjoyed frequent trips back to the Azores to visit family and friends and always looked forward to a weekend getaway by the ocean in Rhode Island.

She cherished her Portuguese heritage and culture and loved her Portuguese Television programs. She was blessed with a loving family and will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 4-7pm on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Saint Michael’s Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for Committal Services.
