Michael A. TompkinsShrewsbury – Michael A. “Mike” Tompkins, 86, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland, Maine.

Mike had been pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Marianne (Torrens) Tompkins. His sons, Brian A.Tompkins of Norwich, Vermont and Keith W. Tompkins of Portland, Maine, his three grandchildren, and their mothers, have survived him.

Born small, and early, in a low birth year on September 30,1935. Mike’s arrival at Dartmouth College from Worcester Academy in 1953, was described by his friend John Fishburn: “an instantly like-able guy, good-looking, intelligent, athletic, gregarious, quick-witted, and witty”. Before commencing from Dartmouth, the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA had commissioned Mike as a Second Lieutenant, teaching aerial intelligence at The Marine Corp Air Station in Kanehoe, Hawaii. Arriving in Hawaii, as a newlywed, he returned to Worcester a dad, who began a 38 year stint with Paul Revere Life Insurance. Mike then formed a

financial advisory business, until he retired as an investment advisor with 3D Asset Management in 2020.

Additionally, Mike, loyally served Dartmouth and his class of ’57, especially as the perennial reunion attendance chairman. He also coordinated alumni interviews in Worcester County for decades. Brian’s class of 1982 has assumed, and maintains, the philanthropic legacy of the ’57’s (annualscholarships, the Dickey Foundation, etc).

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, August 25, 2022, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, immediately followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury
