MARLBOROUGH – The Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School (AMSA) girls varsity volleyball team defeated Marlborough 5-0 in the first scrimmage of the season on the Panthers’ home court Sept. 2.

The Eagles took advantage of the scrimmage to nail down the fundamentals of volleyball and to introduce new players to the game, according to AMSA Head Coach Joseph Bengiovanni.

“It [the scrimmage] went really well. We are ready for the season to get going,” he said.

Marlborough Head Coach Joe Intrieri said in order to claim victory in the next game, the team must work on communication and footwork skills.

“We gotta get talking and start moving our feet,” he said.

Intrieri added, “I’m really excited to be here and teach these kids how to play volleyball the right way.”

AMSA is scheduled to play Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical High School and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School this week, and Marlborough is scheduled to play Ayer Shirley and Leominster.
