Barbara StoneMarlborough – Barbara May (Walsh) Stone, passed peacefully away at the age of 89 on Wednesday September 7, 2022 following a brief illness.

A longtime resident of Marlborough, Barbara was the daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy Walsh of Waltham.  Barbara was the loving wife of the late William N.”Bill” Stone, mother of Cheryl (Stone) Foley and Martin of East Falmouth, MA,  William D. Stone and Ruthie (Fowler) Stone of Charlotte N.C. She is also survived by her grandsons and their spouses, Timothy and Chelsea Foley, Daniel and Candice Foley, Jared Stone and Josh Buckman, as well as four great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her dear cousin, Joan Schow, and sisters in law, Nancy Stone and Virginia Dahlin.

Barbara met her future husband Bill, while she was in the eighth grade, they became fast friends later falling in love at International Order of the Rainbow for Girls social dances. They married in 1955, moved to Marlborough where they raised their family. Camping and fishing were two of their favorite pastimes, even if it required a first night spent in the car. Family and friends were everything to Barbara, she was known as Grammy or Grammy Stone to all that got to meet her sweetness. She loved to bake especially her famous Banana Bread. She also loved attending her grandson’s athletic and school events. Barbara touted Doug Flutie as her favorite local sports star.

While her family was growing up, Barbara worked for many years in the cafeteria at the Sgt. Charles Jaworek Elementary School. She later became a real estate broker and an administrator at Bill Stone Realty Inc. until her retirement.

Barbara was an active member of the First Church of Marlborough and enjoyed her time with the Women’s Fellowship Group especially working the Knit “n” Purl Table at the yearly Meeting House Fair. We would like to extend our appreciation to the dedicated staff and residents at Christopher Heights of Marlborough for the many years of kindness.

Calling hours will take place Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Slattery Funeral Home Inc., 40 Pleasant Street Marlborough. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 9:00 AM at The First Church of Marlborough Congregational, UCC, 37 High Street, Marlborough. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
