HUDSON- Crews responded to a natural gas line break at 10 Old North Road earlier today.

According to Hudson Fire Chief Bryan Johannes, the private contractor was installing a new sewer service and accidentally struck the main.

He added that any contractor who digs in Massachusetts must file their plan with Dig Safe, which is a non-profit organization that notifies the excavator’s utility company about the project. Then, the utility company will help ensure that the excavator does not damage underground utility lines.

“This contractor did [file their project with Dig Safe], but sometimes accidents happen,” Johannes said.

Hudson police responded to the incident and closed Old North Road earlier today.

“[There was] a full response and they [the police] have since cleared and deemed it safe,” said Police Chief Richard DiPersio.
