NORTHBOROUGH – Zach Newbould wowed celebrity judges Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello during the 2022 blind auditions of “The Voice.”
After his performance of “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon, Stefani yelled out, “I love you” to the 19-year-old Northborough native.
Stefani tried to persuade Newbould to join her team, noting that out of all of the coaches, she has been in the music industry the longest.
“I want to be your momager,” she jokingly said.
Stefani added, “What I have heard in your voice is so much heart. I don’t know what genre you are going to end up doing, cause you’re only 19. But, I promise you, if you went with me, it would be so much fun to figure out who you are.”
“Wow, he has an amazing voice [and] an amazing tone,” Cabello said. “Cause that’s what I’m looking for, like, those voices that are special.”
Cabello added that she “was in the same place” as Newbould as she began her career on the show “The X Factor.”
She noted that Newbould got “nervous and pitchy” at times during his performance, but she has the “psychological, therapeutic, physical, [and] physiological” tips to help Newbould perfect his voice.
“I honestly need that kind of help right now because [during] the past year or so, my voice has changed so much,” Newbould said. “I just need to kind of figure out where my style’s at.”
Although Newbould said choosing between Cabello and Stefani was a difficult decision, he ultimately chose Cabello.
With a big smile, he said “I’m gonna have to go with Camila.”
