25 Halloween activities kicking off this weekend

REGION – Halloween is around the corner. Here’s a list of spooky events going on around the region, ranging from pumpkin decorating to trunk or treats.

GRAFTON 

  • Pumpkin Decorating – Oct. 23, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Houlden Farm, 138 Old Westboro Road. Free with painting supplies and pumpkins provided. Sponsored by Grafton Recreation. More information at https://www.facebook.com/HouldenFarm
  • Friendly Trick-or-Treat at the Grafton Municipal Center – Oct. 26, 3 to 4 p.m.
  • Trick-or-Treat at the Grafton Public Library – Oct. 31, all day. Celebrate the spookiest holiday by stopping by the library to pick up special Halloween treats! Visit each desk for a unique treat.

HUDSON

  • Pumpkin Stroll – Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by the Hudson Public Library in partnership with the Hudson Rotary Club.   • Downtown Trick or Treat – Oct. 27, 4 to 6 p.m. Sponsored by Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce. Trick or treat will happen rain or shine! Main Street will be closed from the rotary to Broad Street.

MARLBOROUGH

  • Trunk or Treat – Oct. 23, noon to 3 p.m., The Campus at Marlborough, 100 Campus Drive. Sponsored by the Greater Marlborough Junior Woman’s Club. Free. For more information email [email protected] or visit www.marlboroughjuniors.org.
  • Monster (Mask) Mash – Oct. 24, 4 p.m., Marlborough Public Library. Make your own monster masks with Ms. Erin. There will also be snacks and music. Open to ages 3-10. Registration required. For information visit https://www.marlborough-ma.gov/library-0
  • Horribles Parade – Oct. 27, Main Street. Trick-or-Treat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., parade at 5:30 p.m., led by the High School/Middle School Band from the old fire station, 91 Main St. Free. For more information, contact the Mayor’s Office, 508-460-3770.
  • Zombie Survival Course – Oct. 29, noon to 2 p.m., Marlborough Public Library. Join us in-person on the library lawn to learn how to survive the zombie apocalypse with this workshop. “Animal Man Survivor” Matt Gabriel will show some real skills that could keep you alive when the apocalypse starts, including how to build a shelter and some basic first aid.   • Trunk-or-Treat – Oct. 29, 2 p.m., Greater Grace Christian Fellowship, 187 Pleasant St. Free. There will be rows of decorated vehicle trucks filled with candy for trick-or-treaters, free hot dogs, coffee and popcorn. There will be fall festival-style games and a harvest scene photo opportunity as well. In the church building, there will be a bake sale as a fundraiser for the church’s teen group who will be going on a missions trip next year.

NORTHBOROUGH

  • Trunk or Treat – Oct. 25, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Senior Center. Free. Town vehicles and local sponsors will be decorating cars and trucks and handing out candy.
  • Halloween Party – Oct. 28, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Northborough Free Library. Games, crafts and candy. Come in costume. Registration is required. All families are welcome. Information: 508-393-5025, ext. 2.
  • Jack-O-Lantern Contest and Stroll – The Northborough Community Affairs Committee has announced the 2022 Jack-O-Lantern Contest and Stroll during Halloween weekend. Jack-o-lanterns provided by Northborough residents will be on display at the Town Common starting Oct. 28 and will stay lit through the weekend for all ages to enjoy.

Residents can sign up to participate, and members of the community will be able to vote for their favorite creative designs. The committee is accepting up to 100 entries this year. Entry is free, although registrants are asked to make a suggested donation to the Northborough Food Pantry to participate. The pictures of the jack-o-lanterns will be posted on the committee’s website, and Northborough residents will be able to vote for their three favorite entries until Halloween night. The three winners will each receive a prize from a local business.

SHREWSBURY

  • Haunted Hillando Halloween Maze – 48 Hillando Drive. Opening Night Oct. 7. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October from 6 to 9 p.m. A family-friendly maze.   • Scary Stories in the Cemetery – Oct. 24, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Meet at the Artemas Ward gate (behind the First Congregational Church) and walk among the graves, then settle in for some chilling tales in the dark.   • Trick or Treat Storywalk – Oct. 29, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Join the children’s librarians at Lake Street Park to read a story along the path and trick or treat.

SOUTHBOROUGH

  • Trunk or Treat – Oct. 22, 3 to 5 p.m., Woodward School parking lot, 28 Cordaville Road. Follows the Fire Station Parade at 2 p.m. starting at Woodward School. Sponsored by Southborough Recreation. Information: https://southboroughma.myrec.com/info/default.aspx
  • Halloween Party – Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to noon, Fay School. The Southborough Library will partner with Fay School for lots of Halloween fun. Kids are invited to come in costume for crafts, a parade, and a Halloween story time. Information: Kim Ivers, 508-485-5031, [email protected]
  • Boo in the Barnyard – Oct. 30, 1-2 p.m., 2-3 p.m., 3-4 p.m., Chestnut Hill Farm, Chestnut Hill Road, Southborough. We will have many Halloween activities for children, such as ghost, pumpkin and candy corn crafts; mask making; and our special take on trick-or-treating. Pumpkin bowling, themed scavenger hunts, and yard games will also be ready for you, and the Farm Store will be open with even more treats to take home. When you register, you will be selecting a one-hour session. Admission: $24 for member carload, $30 nonmember carload. Your ticket is per car, with up to five family members in a car. WESTBOROUGH

  • Westborough Main Street Trick or Treat – On Oct. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m., little ghosts and goblins are invited to come to Town Hall, Forbes Municipal Building, Police Station, Fire Station and the library.

Many businesses in downtown Westborough will be taking part – get treats at Westborough Historical Society, BORO Sugar Shack, Faris Flowers, Dairy Queen, Central House Tavern, Red Barn Coffee Roasters and lots more.

  • Dia de los Muertos – Oct. 28, 7 p.m., Hastings Elementary School. Watch Disney Pixar’s “Coco” and create ofrendas (bring a photo of a lost loved one). All ages, individuals and families are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.   • Trunk or Treat – Oct. 29, 11:30 a.m., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 183 West Main St.
  • Trunk or Treat Harvest Party – Oct. 29, 3 to 5 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main St. Festive games, food and plenty of candy.
  • Haunted Library – Oct. 29, 6:30 to 9 p.m. (15-minute intervals), Westborough Public Library. This free event is open to adults, teens, and families with school-aged children who are brave enough to enter the haunted dwelling. Every individual who enters the building must register for a “Timed Entry Pass.” This pass will tell you the time that you will need to arrive to guarantee entry into the building. Specific tour tickets will be given out upon arrival to pass holders in a first-come, first serve basis. Entrance into the Haunted Library can only be guaranteed to registered participants who arrive at their designated time slot. Be sure to register for the timed entry that works best for you.
