Westborough – Joel Stuart Anderson, 65, passed away on Sunday, September 18th after a brief battle with leukemia. Born on November 7th, 1956 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Stuart and Joan (Morris) Anderson, Joel moved to Westborough at age four and raised his own children in town as well.
He was a salesman who worked and thrived in many fields and made lasting connections with his customers. He loved baseball and the Red Sox and often reminisced about pitching in high school. He was an avid lover of music who often described how a great song would “give him goosebumps” because it was so moving or thrilling to listen to.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Jan (Lukey) Anderson, whom he had dated since high school, the couple recently estimated that they had been together for 50 years. He was a devoted and wonderful father to three boys, David, Jonathan and Tyler and a loving grandfather of three, Lila, Atticus and Jack. Also surviving is his brother Seth Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jill (Anderson) Tetreault.
Joel’s greatest passion may have been being a father and grandfather. He always knew when it was appropriate to ‘lower his age’ to the level of whomever he was interacting with, but also instinctively knew when to be serious and offer considerate advice. Perhaps the part of Joel’s personality that all who knew him will remember most was his sense of humor. Joel possessed a unique ability to mix humor and sarcasm with a warmth that kept everyone laughing but also knowing how much he cared. His spirit will live on in the examples he set as a father, his unique sense of humor and in his ability to ‘put the shoe on the other foot’ when offering advice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, October 27, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Pickering and Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, MA.
