Emmanuel MiliasShrewsbury – Emmanuel Milias (91) of Shrewsbury, MA passed away peacefully on Oct. 31st at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Piraeus, Greece in 1930. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Konstantinos and Maria (Koutsogiannopoulou) Milias, his wife of 50 years, Elpida (Sarando) Milias, his sisters, Aspasia Kourkoutsaki and Sophia Milias and leaves several nieces and grand-nephews.

He received his High School Diploma at Athens College in Athens, Greece; his BA in Mathematics from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.

Manny was a research and development specialist at Norton Co. (now St. Colbain) for thirty years and was awarded a number of patents in the determination of properties of new materials. He was a very active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester, MA for over 50 years. In his early days in Worcester, he was a member, chapter president and district chairman of the Greek Orthodox Youth of America. Together with his wife Elpida, they organized the First Grecian Festival in 1976. He was on the Parish Council both as a member and as its president. Manny was also a founding member of the Hellenic Arts Society, and of course, sang in the choir under Elpida for 50 years. He and Elpida shared a love of church, travel, family and music throughout their many happy years together and shared their love and generosity with family, friends and the church.

Manny also was a member and secretary of the House of Trustees of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology and received the Ministry Award from the Diocese of Boston and was an ARCHON of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Manny and pay their respects from 9:00-11:00 am on Friday, November 4th at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
