HUDSON – After a frightening 26 hours, Hudson residents Kathy and Gary Johnson have been reunited with their cat.

Jasmine, the Johnson family’s 19-year-old cat, was stolen Oct. 27.

After Kathy realized Jasmine was missing, her daughters examined the family’s Ring camera and saw that a couple swiped the cat from underneath a car in their driveway.

“Without the Ring camera, I don’t think I would have gotten her back,” she said.

According to Kathy, Jasmine had been missing for 26 hours before the police reunited her with the family.

“I am very relieved and happy that she was not hurt or dumped anywhere. I am so happy that the police were able to locate her and bring her home to us. I am very grateful they were able to do that,” Kathy said.

After she posted the stolen cat on Facebook, Hudson residents sent her kind messages.

“The community, oh my goodness. When I posted it on Facebook, it was amazing how many people privately messaged me and came together and helped. I am so grateful for everybody. People around here are so nice and caring,” Kathy said.

“She’s a big part of our family,” she added.

The Johnson family adopted Jasmine from the Sterling Animal Shelter back in 2004.

Kathy said that Jasmine has been part of the family since her daughters, Kelsey, Ashley and Kaylee were young.

“They don’t know anything else but having that cat in our world, so it was very difficult for them. When she was taken, they were nervous,” Kathy said.

When the family adopted Jasmine, she was skittish. Now, Kathy said that Jasmine “acts like a dog” and tries to defend the yard from the dogs that walk by while she is outside.

“Even though she’s small, she thinks she’s mighty. She’s not afraid of going up against the big dogs and telling them to get out of her space. That’s kind of a funny thing about her,” she said.

“She likes to sit on your chest and snuggle,” Kathy said. “She’s really a lovable cat.”
