NORTHBOROUGH – It’s time to break out your running shoes because the Northborough Turkey Trot is around the corner.

The 5K run/walk will start at 8 a.m. at the Marion E. Zeh Elementary School on Thanksgiving morning.

The Northborough Turkey Trot raises money for the Northborough Recreation Department and will support subsidizing the cost of summer camps for local families along with supporting the variety of programs sponsored by the department.

The first annual Northborough Turkey Trot was started by the owner of Core Connection Rita Matraia in 2008. According to a press release, the event was in support of the Food Pantry and included about 30 friends and family running through Matraia’s neighborhood.

Now, it has grown to feature over 1,000 runners.

The Turkey Trot is seeking donations to help offset the cost of the race, including registration costs, food, water, prizes and the timing company.

Donations can be made online at https://northboroughma.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29806 or sent through the mail to Northborough Recreation at 63 Main Street, Northborough MA 01532.

Organizers ask for donors to make sure to note that the donation is on behalf of the Northborough Turkey Trot.

Online registration for the race closes at noon Nov. 23 and can be found online at https://www.northboroughturkeytrot.org/racedetails. However, participants will still be able to register in-person at the bib pickup as well as the morning of the race from 7 to 7:30 a.m.
