Robert I. PlaceMarlborough – Robert Ira Place, 78, of Marlborough passed away December 6, 2022 after a long painful battle that finally ended peacefully. He was born June 1, 1944 in Concord, MA to Irving and Luella (Shepard) Place. Bob was the oldest son of nine children.

Bob was a firefighter for 37 years with the town of Sudbury and a police officer for 2 years before that. He dedicated his life to serving others and we are so proud of him for his service and all the people he helped.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed exploring the woods with is son, Derek, in their continued pursuit of that big buck, turkey or geese. He loved camping with his family, especially at the Cape. He loved his daughter and would have given her the moon if he could. He relished his time with his grandson, Liam – teaching him how to fish, riding him around on his rider mower, and being the best role model a man can be.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Janice (Fair) Place; his loving children, Derek Paul of Marlborough, MA and Robin Sue of Hudson, MA and his grandson, Liam Place of Hudson, MA. He was a devoted and loving husband and cherished his wife with all his heart. He was a dedicated father and a doting grandfather. Bob never missed a baseball game for his son or grandson or a dance recital for his daughter. We are heartbroken and he will be dearly missed.

Bob also leaves behind his brothers and sisters: Midge Helms, John Place and wife Millie, George Place and wife Harriett, Dot Finnerty, Donna Ferree and husband John, Marcia Place and wife Kathy, and Russell Place and wife Jacqui; many nieces and nephews; and his dear Aunt Bette Place. He was predeceased by his sister Julie Patz.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Duckett Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons. Following visitation, interment will be held at New Town Cemetery.
