Sandra M. DunbarHingham – Sandra M. Dunbar, 76, of Hingham, Massachusetts died on November 26 at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.

Sandy was born in Natick, Massachusetts in 1946 to Robert “Bob” Bordewieck and Elsie (Hussey) Bordewieck. She grew up in Southboro and Braintree before attending Boston University. Sandy lived most of her life on the South Shore in Norwell and Hingham while working as a nurse and as a registered nurse practitioner mental health care.

Throughout her life, Sandy was a committed caretaker for her family, friends and the community through her mental health care work. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and traveling. She especially loved to travel to coastal Maine and became an avid fan of the New England Patriots. Her homes were always shared with pet cats who she greatly enjoyed pampering.

Sandy was married to the late Paul Ranaghan for 31 years. She was previously married to the late Craig Dunbar and leaves behind her children Alex Dunbar of Syracuse, NY, Carolyn Dunbar of Alameda, CA, Joanna (Dunbar) Lightburn of New Lebanon, NY and her grandchildren Oslo, Colin and Cassidy. She is also survived by her siblings Kathleen (Bordewieck) Campbell of Huntsville, Alabama, Virginia (Bordewieck) Colin of Springfield, Virginia, Dorothy (Bordewieck) Hill of Thomasville, North Carolina, Douglas Bordewieck of Durham, North Carolina and ten nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Sandy and Paul will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health.

The Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel assisted with arrangements.
