Ruth E. CangelloShrewsbury – Ruth E. (Simoncini) Cangello, 96, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at The Christopher House in Worcester. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Leo Cangello, who predeceased her in November 1999.

Ruth is survived by her children, Susan Farrington of Shrewsbury and Peter Cangello and his wife Karen (Belsito) of Worcester; four grandchildren, Nicholas Cangello, Michael Stanton and his wife Adreanna, Gianna Bushe and her husband Sean, and Alexa Stanton; two great grandchildren, Lennah Rose Bushe and Mila Elena Stanton; her sister, Janyce Safford of Shrewsbury; many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister and four brothers, Geraldine Simoncini, Robert, Edward, Donald, and John Simoncini.

Ruth was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, John and Margaret (Donahue) Simoncini.

“Ruthie” as she was called, graduated from Commerce High and The Ward School.  She worked at U.S. Wire until she was blessed with children and remained home to care and nurture her family.  She was proud of the Spelling Bee Championship she won at East Kendall Street School in 1940, where she made newspaper headlines; this propelled here to become a Scrabble expert!

She was a member of the Shrewsbury Women’s Club, the Shrewsbury Tennis Club, and was a member of Saint Anne’s Parish, where she taught Catechism, and continued into her 80’s sending cards and notes to the hospitalized members of the parish.

She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and yearly trips with Leo to Florida and Cape Cod, going to enjoy “The Wonder of It All’ with friends and family and playing cards. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her four grandchildren. They brought joy to her life, as she did to theirs. She was blessed to live a full life.

There are no Calling Hours.

Her Funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 19, at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne’s Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road (route 9 east), Shrewsbury, MA. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
