Virginia McGowanWorcester – Virginia (Hall) McGowan, 80, of Worcester, Massachusetts died Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the UMass-Memorial Medical Center.

She leaves behind four children and their spouses, Maria A. Williams and her husband Chris of Rockwood, Maine, Patty Svirsky and her husband Bob of Lynn, Massachusetts, Bob McGowan and his wife Allison of Zionsville, Indiana, and Deb McGowan of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren, Nicole Walsh, and Caroline and Kevin McGowan; three sisters, Christine Williams, Frances Kelly, and Mary Frazer; two brothers, Bernard and John Hall, her best friend Betsy Eck, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers David and Edward Hall.

Virginia was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Bernard and Caroline (VanLoon) Hall. She grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, and raised her family in Shrewsbury. Virginia graduated from Ascension High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Assumption College.

After working for more than 15 years at the Saint Gobain Company in Northborough, Massachusetts, Virginia retired in 2007 and spent her time doing the things she loved–travelling, reading, knitting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Calling hours are Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester, Massachusetts. A prayer service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery will be private.
