Robert S. MurphyNorthborough – Robert S. Murphy, 91, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022. He was the loving husband of 63 years to Linda M. (LaBossiere) Murphy until her own passing in November of 2015.

Robert was born in Holden, one of nine children to William F. and Adora (Svenson) Murphy. He spent his early years in Holden prior to moving to Northborough, where he remained a resident. He was a graduate of Northborough High School.

At age 14 he began a life-long career as a nurseryman at Bigelow Nurseries. Bob remained a dedicated employee for over 66 years, passing along his strong work ethic to the countless “kids” that were lucky enough to have their first work experience with him. Bob also enjoyed his own nursery business at home, honing his farming and business skills while teaching his own children and grandchildren that same work ethic. He was a longtime Mason and member of the Aleppo Shrine, where he served on the Shriners Fire Brigade. He was a 30+ year volunteer with the Northborough Fire Department and was active within the American Legion Post 234 of Northborough. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, camping, vacationing on Cape Cod, bowling, sports, and beautifying his yard on his John Deere tractor. He enjoyed many Ritchie bus trips to multiple Super Bowls with great friends. Bob was a man of his word, with a great sense of humor. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
