Wilfred L. CaronShrewsbury – Wilfred L. “Willie” Caron, 94, longtime Shrewsbury resident and retired police officer, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, December 30, 2022 at Beaumont Nursing Home in Northborough. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara C. (Burns) Caron, in 2000.

Willie leaves his beloved children: Pamela Krause and her husband Russell, of Sebec, ME, Stephen Caron and his wife Gretchen, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Cynthia D’Alessandro and her husband David, of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren: Megan Krause, Brian Krause and wife Sarah, Stephen Caron and wife Kelli, Tricia Caron Richards and husband Teo, Andrew D’Alessandro, Michael D’Alessandro and wife Nicole, and Susan D’Alessandro and husband Joshua Woodeson; his great-grandchildren: Izaak, and Aleksander Krause, Austin, and Aiden Caron, Karoline, Henry, and Victoria Rose D’Alessandro, Cameron, Landon, and Sophia D’Alessandro, Evelina, and River Woodeson along with great-great-granddaughter, Chloé Caron; his sister, Louise Bresnahan, of Newport, ME; and his friend/cherished companion, Marion Buonomo. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Alice Dulmaine, Alma Scully, Eleanor Fritz, William Caron, and Eugene Caron.

Willie was born, raised, and educated in Millbury, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, where he was an altar server. He was Captain of the Millbury High School’s football team, and graduated with the Class of 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged after serving his country proudly.

Upon returning home, Willie attended and graduated from the Police Academy, and began his lengthy, 45-year career with the Shrewsbury Police Department. He loved serving the community and keeping the town safe.

In his free time, Willie enjoyed woodworking, and tending to his yardwork. He also enjoyed horseback riding, working in the stables, and had horses for most of his life. Willie loved being out on his boat, which he kept docked in Danvers for 30 years, and wintering in Florida.

He and Barbara were married at St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury, where they remained faithful parishioners for many years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Caron family between 10:00 and 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, with a prayer service to follow at 11:30AM. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
