H. Richard LearyShrewsbury – H. Richard Leary, 84, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 with his wife and daughters by his side.

Dick, as he was known to most, was born in Worcester, MA to Harold R Leary and Grace (McKenna) Leary. He lived in his hometown for many years before moving to Shrewsbury in 1968.

Educated in Worcester, Dick attended North High School and Worcester Junior College. He worked for most of his career in the computer services department at the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, retiring in 2000.

In retirement, Dick spent his summers on the golf course and his winters on the ski slopes. He was a member of the Greendale Men’s Club and through the club, he ran the Golf League at Green Hill Golf Course for several seasons. Meeting the “guys” for coffee in recent years brought him a lot of joy. He loved all things sports, but nothing more than the Boston Celtics. Of all the things he enjoyed, however, being with his family far outshined anything else. It was what he loved the most. He absolutely adored his grandchildren, was their biggest fan and took great interest in whatever they were doing in life.

He will always be remembered as a true gentleman. His quiet demeanor also included a unique very dry sense of humor. He was often referred to by friends, neighbors, and colleagues as “the nicest man they had ever met.”

Dick leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Kathleen (Connors) Leary. He is survived by his daughters Deborah Peznola and husband Joseph of Thornton NH and Pamela Chisholm and husband Thomas of Douglas MA, along with his grandchildren Daniel, Jessica, Ethan, and Grace. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Anne Ferrandino. He is predeceased by his parents along with sister Regina Pratt and brother Robert Leary.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choosing.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Leary family between 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA, A funeral Mass at 11:00 will follow.
