MARLBOROUGH – A longtime member of the Newton Free Library will be the new director of the Marlborough Public Library.

In a Jan. 5 letter to the City Council, Mayor Arthur Vigeant announced that Sara Belisle will replace Margaret Cardello when she retires on Jan. 13.

Belisle is a Marlborough resident.

Vigeant said that she “comes with extensive experience from the Newton Public Library, and is excited to apply her knowledge and enthusiasm while having the opportunity to create plans for enhancing services in the newly renovated library later this year.”

Belisle has been with the Newton library since 2015 when she began as a reference librarian. In 2018, she became assistant supervisor of public services, and was named the supervisor of public services in 2020.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California-Irvine, and a master’s degree in library science from Simmons College.
