Marion B. FriarsShrewsbury – Marion B. (Holden) Friars, 92, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the Southbridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a period of declining health. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Milton E. Friars, in April of 1987.

She leaves her loving daughter, Sandra M. Belanger and her husband Philip of Rochdale; a grandson, Zachery Stachowski and his wife, Witney, and their children, Zarianna and Zoey all of Lowell; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Milton, Marion was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon A. Stachowski and her husband Daniel of Shrewsbury; her four brothers and their wives, John and Lorraine Holden of Grafton, William Holden of Worcester, Raymond and Sally Holden of Shrewsbury and Paul and Claire Holden of Millbury.

Marion was born in Worcester, daughter of the late John T. Holden and Anna T. (Joseph-Agbay) Holden. She was a graduate of Worcester Girls Trade School and was a proud member of the Worcester Chapter of the Civil Air Patrol for several years.

She and Milton were married in San Diego where he was stationed in the Navy. They returned to Worcester for several years before making their home in Shrewsbury where they raised their daughters. Marion enjoyed exploring her heritage by cooking Middle Eastern food, entertaining family and friends during the holidays and traveling with her husband. She loved animals and had many pets during her lifetime.

Marion’s family meant the world to her, especially her grandson, Zachery and great grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered in the heart of many. The family would like to thank the staff of the Southbridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and the Hospice of Western and Central Mass. for their compassionate care of Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter, 111 Young Road, East Brookfield, MA 01515.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 9:30-10:30 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
