Hudson – Antonio F. Viegas, 86, of Hudson, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2023.
Antonio leaves his wife of 31 years, Maria do Ceu Gageiro-Viegas of Hudson, MA; his daughter, Lucia “Lucy” M. Gageiro and her husband Renato Almeida of Hudson, MA and two grandchildren, Gage and Kaya Bairos. He is also survived by his brother, Angelo Viegas, husband of the late Genevieve M. Monteiro-Viegas, sister-in-law Maria Jose Viegas, wife of the late Jose Viegas; his sister, Celeste Chaves, wife of the late Jose Chaves along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and close friends.
Antonio was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Antonio de Sousa Viegas and Maria de Resendes Freitas-Viegas. He has spent the last 70 years residing in Hudson after emigrating to the United States. Antonio worked for many years as a maintenance engineer locally. He was a member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson and member of the Hudson Portuguese Club.
Antonio cherished his wife Ceu and all the memories they shared. He loved spending time with Lucy and later with his grandchildren. He loved traveling, being outdoors, gardening and caring for his home. He enjoyed frequent trips to Cape Cod, especially spending time with family and enjoying the beach. Antonio will always be remembered by those who loved and knew him. They will miss his jovial constant whistling as he went about his chores.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5 to 8pm on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for Committal Services.
