MARLBOROUGH – Ward 3 City Councilor J. Christian Dumais has announced he is running for mayor.

He is planning a campaign kickoff on Thursday, March 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lost Shoe Brewing and Roasting Co., 19 Weed St. Dumais said he plans to pull nomination papers once they are available in May.

About Dumais

A native of Marlborough, Dumais graduated from Marlborough Public Schools. He is also a graduate of Lasell University in Newton, where he majored in business administration and psychology.

For the past 20 years, Dumais has worked in the corporate, nonprofit and government sectors. He has run the DruMais Hair Salon in Marlborough since 2010.

He also worked with the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, and he earned the chamber’s entrepreneur of the year award in 2014.

Dumais was elected to the City Council in 2017.

His platform

According to his campaign website, Dumais wants the city to build a new fire station.

This is one of the main factors why he is running,” according to the website. “It has been difficult as a city councilor to get an answer or an update on the process of a new station being built by the current administration.”

Dumais was a member of the Fire Station Committee.

He is also concerned about the state of the city’s roads (“Street repair is one of the main priorities and we cannot delay,” he said); converting the Walker Building into office space for the city; and the need to expand the city’s police department.
