Wendy HalalShrewsbury – Wendy (Brown) Halal, 65, of Shrewsbury, MA passed away on April 10, 2023 in the comfort of her home with her family by her side. Wendy was born in Milo, ME to Duane C. Brown and Mary Thorpe, who both predeceased her.

She grew up in Worcester, MA, in a large, loving family, graduating from Burncoat High School in 1976. After high school, she met her husband Nicholas Halal II who she was married to for 36 beautiful years. Wendy loved returning to Maine with her many sisters on annual girls’ trips as well as getting together with them for weekly paint nights.

For the majority of her career, she enjoyed working amongst “her ladies” – as she called them – at David Clark Company and most recently Lenze Americas. She was a caring sister, supportive friend and most loving and attentive wife and mother to her four children.

Wendy was most creative and enjoyed ceramics, painting and crafting. She always had a home décor project in the works for every season and holiday. The holidays and family traditions were always important to Wendy, but even more so in the recent years as it was a time all her children, their spouses and grandchildren returned home to gather, visit and continue creating memories. Wendy’s greatest joy was time spent with her family. She would reminisce on the days spent watching her sons play baseball and rarely missed any of her grandchildren’s sporting events. That was Wendy; she was the matriarch of the family… Always there, always present, always maintaining family traditions.

Wendy loved the ocean. She enjoyed trips to the beach where she could relax, take in the views and watch the waves roll in and out. She could be found on the shores of Wells or in the shops of Kittery. She was fond of lighthouses and would stop at Nubble lighthouse every chance she could get. In the summers, her family would gather around the pool for BBQs where she enjoyed her go-to favorite beverage: a cold (very cold) glass of Pinot Grigio with a cup of ice on the side. These times were most memorable as Wendy told stories of when her children were younger, always bringing the group to tears of laughter.

Wendy leaves behind her husband, Nicholas Halal II of Shrewsbury, MA and her four children, Nicole Halal and her fiancé, Kyle Simpson, of Shrewsbury, MA, Jenna Halal of Shrewsbury, MA, Nicholas Halal III and his wife, Abigail, of Holden, MA and Anthony Halal and his wife, Arianna, of Spencer, MA. She was the most loving sitto to her cherished grandchildren Owenn Simpson, AJ Halal, Jaxson Halal and Holden Halal. She is also survived by her loving siblings David Brown, Derek Solomon, John Solomon, Andrea Perrin, Christine Esposito and Karan Cuthbertson. Along with many nieces and nephews that she adored. She was predeceased by her brother Duane C. (Ricky) Brown, Jr. and sisters Marsha Bombard, Sherri Peterson, Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, Jackalyn Bastille and Elaine Solomon.

The family would like to thank the critical care team at UMass for the care they gave her before she returned home on hospice. They would also like to thank the nurses and aide Sharon of VNA Hospice Care for the wonderful care given to her while at home.

A period of calling hours will be held Monday, April 17 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
