WESTBOROUGH – The Westborough Economic Development Committee (EDC) has announced the eighth annual Year in Review Awards Celebration, which is an annual event that brings state and municipal officials together with local business leaders to honor Westborough-based companies and highlight the town’s economic accomplishments.

This year, the EDC is excited to announce that it will be joined by Yvonne Hao, secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to deliver the keynote address.

Hao has had more than 25 years of executive business experience as a senior executive, including as co-founder, advisor and managing director at investment firm Cove Hill Partners and as an operating partner at Pillar Ventures. Previously, she was the chief operating officer and chief financial officer of PillPack, an online pharmacy that was acquired by Amazon in 2018.  She is also a former operating partner at Bain Capital.

In addition, Hao has been a board director of companies such as CarGurus, Flywire, Gentherm, ZipRecruiter and Bose.

She also has been involved in the community, is the vice chair of the Board of Trustees of Beth Israel Lahey Health and is a trustee emeritus of her alma mater, Williams College.

This year’s event will take place on Friday, April 28, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Forbes Municipal Building. If you are interested in attending, please contact Zach Boughner, economic development coordinator, or fill-out a short registration form by Friday, April 21.

This year, the EDC is recognizing six businesses for their impact on the community. Most award winners were selected by the EDC, but this year the EDC asked the public for input and selected the winners for the New Downtown Business, Civic Pride and the “Hall of Fame” awards based on a poll of the community.

New Development Project: Recognizes a business or developer for the most impactful new construction (or redevelopment) project in the town of Westborough – Rakks Architectural Shelving and Support Hardware

New “Small” Business: Recognizes a new and exciting locally owned business in our community – PLAYNOW!

New Downtown Business: Recognizes a new and exciting business in our downtown area – Cha Cha N Beans

Innovation: Recognizes a Westborough business that is pioneering the future for their industry – Ascend Elements

Civic Pride: Recognizes a business that has cultivated a reputation as a strong community partner and friend – Westborough Connects

Hall of Fame: Recognizes a longstanding Westborough business (e.g., 10+ years) for the indelible mark it has left on our local economy – Uhlman’s Ice Cream
