Beverly M. HastingsShrewsbury – Beverly M. (Gonyea) Hastings, 77, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday April 13, 2023. Born in Worcester and raised in both Worcester and Auburn, Beverly was the oldest child of Clarence and Anita M. (Rodier) Gonyea.

Beverly graduated from Auburn High School and attended Henry Heywood School of Nursing before graduating in 1966 and marrying her husband, Daniel. They ultimately settled in Shrewsbury and raised their family.

While Beverly worked at both Mercy Center in Worcester and was the manager of a doctor’s office in Westborough when her boys were young, her career in the Accounts Payable office at The College of the Holy Cross was where she would retire after 20 years of service.

Beverly was a devoted caregiver, starting from her time as a nursing student and extending to her being an organ donor to her husband Dan. Beverly taught her grandchildren an abundance of life lessons from her extended knowledge of WWII history to how to make the perfect pizza. Beverly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially when they would all come together for sports, academic and musical events. Her pumpkin muffins were legendary and she could always be counted on to make far too many desserts for the holidays.

Beverly is survived by her three sons, Daniel, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Auburn, Sean A. and his girlfriend, Jennifer, and Matthew R. and his wife, Kristen, all of Shrewsbury; her beloved grandchildren, Danielle and her boyfriend, Paul, of Worcester, Elizabeth and her fiancé, William, of Fitchburg, Zachary, of Shrewsbury, Mariah of Boston, Patrick and Duncan, both of Shrewsbury. In addition, she leaves behind her siblings, Paul and his wife, Paulette, of Texas, Deborah Griffin and her husband, Robert, of North Carolina and Robert and his wife, Deborah of New Hampshire, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Beverly’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 8th floor at UMass Memorial Hospital, University Campus and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, in Worcester, for the special care and kindness that they have given to Beverly and her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Beverly’s family on Tuesday, April 18th, from 4-7 p.m. at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St, Worcester. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 19th from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society to fund Ovarian Cancer Research & Patient Care or the St. John’s High School Annual Fund, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
