WESTBOROUGH – The Westborough Police Department is cautioning residents against a gold-buying scam.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, community members may come across a couple and young child that appear to be lost or out of gas in a parking lot. Police said the couple may offer gold jewelry at a cheap price so that they will be able to purchase items like gas, food or diapers.

Police caution against falling for it, saying the gold is fake even if it has an 18K stamp.

“Stay vigilant and keep an eye out for any suspicious activity,” police wrote.

Residents with concerns or who suspect fraudulent activity are encouraged to call the Westborough Police Department’s non-emergency line at 508-475-4800.
