MARLBOROUGH – Assabet Valley Federation of Teachers have ratified a new contract.

On Thursday, June 15, Daniel G. Capuano, lead teacher in the Automotive Technology Department and negotiations chairman, announced “that the teachers union have ratified a contract with the district. Details will be announced soon.”

The union had been working without a contract since June 2022.

Last month, the union announced during a School Committee meeting that they had taken a vote of no confidence in Superintendent Ernest Houle in April.

At that time, School Committee Chair Virginia announced that contract negotiations between Assabet Regional Vocational School District and its teachers’ union have entered into mediation.

In addition to pay increases, the union previously said it wanted the district to come up with a strategic plan, a better financial plan and restoration of health and physical education positions. Members also voiced concerns about hiring teachers without a contract in hand.

“We have been made aware that on at least two occasions, prospective hires turned down employment at Assabet because of the lack of a contract. A lack of highly qualified teachers will most certainly impact the educational experience of our students,” the union told the School Committee in the letter.
