Hudson – Jose Maria Duarte, 65, of Hudson, MA, died on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Marlborough Hospital, Marlborough, MA.
Jose leaves his wife of 44 years, Elvira M. (Monteiro) Duarte; his son Helio Duarte and his wife Filipa of Sterling, MA; his daughter Sandra Pires and her partner James of Clinton, MA and his 5 grandchildren, Kaitlin Fernandes and her partner Shawn, Nicholas Pires, Nathan Duarte, Bella Duarte and Laila Pires. He is also survived by his brother Antonio Duarte and his wife Maria of Dorchester, MA; his sister Conceicao Duarte of Santa Maria, Azores; his former son-in-law Joe Pires along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Jose Duarte and Joao Duarte.
Jose was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, son of the late Francisco Rezendes Duarte and Maria Da Costa Monteiro. In 2005 he emigrated to the United States settling in Hudson, MA. He was employed by S&F Concrete of Hudson, MA and also spent time working at his son’s business, East Coast Concrete Design. He was a member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson, MA.
Jose loved being on or near the ocean. He spent time as a commercial fisherman in Santa Maria and when he settled in Hudson, he enjoyed frequent trips to Cape Cod fishing on the Canal. Jose and his family always looked forward to their vacations in Bourne, MA where Jose could spend a good amount of time fishing, his favorite pastime. His passion was his family, spending time with them and later with his grandchildren was always cherished. He always looked forward to traveling back to Santa Maria to visit with family and friends. Jose life ended suddenly at a young age but he leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion he shared with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his unique personality and ability to entertain all around him with his sense of humor and his singing. He will truly be missed but never forgotten by those who loved and knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson, MA for Committal Services.
