Shrewsbury – Theresa M. (Girouard) Smith, 91, of Shrewsbury, passed from this life into eternal life peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2023. It brings her family peace knowing she is no longer in the grasps of dementia, and is now reunited with her beloved husband, the late Charles F. “Charlie” Smith, Jr.; and sons, the late Steven C. and Glenn J. Smith.
Theresa, known affectionately as “Terry,” leaves her loving daughter, Bonnie M. Carelli and her husband Timothy, of Shrewsbury; her grandchildren, whom she cherished and adored; Alyssa M. Lubanski and her husband Michael, of Westport, CT, Ryan C. Carelli, of New Jersey, and Brielle M. Carelli, of Shrewsbury and her two-week-old great-grandson, Tate Charles Lubanski.
Terry was born in Leominster, only daughter of the late Joseph A. and Olive M. (Drisdelle) Girouard, both native to New Brunswick, Canada. She was a graduate of Leominster High School and following her passion for caring for those in need, pursued a career in Nursing at the Leominster Hospital School of Nursing.
She worked many years for both Fairlawn Hospital and Worcester State Hospital. She took joy in nurturing and caring for others.
Terry always appreciated life’s simple pleasures. She felt truly blessed travelling with her best friend and loving husband of 62 years, Charlie. Together they experienced the beauty of the United States, Canada, and Europe, exploring destination cities and the Great Outdoors.
Terry loved dancing and listening to Jazz music with Charlie, attending Jazz festivals throughout the US., and going on many family beach vacations to Rhode Island and the Cape Cod National Seashore.
She and Charlie were faithful members of St. Anne’s Church; Terry assisted with Rev. Ralph DiOrio’s Apostolate of Divine Mercy & Healing Ministry, where she enjoyed volunteering on the pray line. She was truly a woman of good faith and that reflected in the way she lived her life.
Throughout her life she took pleasure in cooking, reading, knitting, decorating, entertaining her dear friends in her Shrewsbury residence, attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events and creating treasured memories with her beloved family.
She will always be remembered as kindhearted, gregarious, compassionate, beautiful inside and out, classy and having a loving spirit. Her radiant, cheerful smile could brighten anyone’s darkest day.
Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the wonderful Hospice Team at Notre Dame Health Care.
There will be no calling hours, and funeral services will be held privately for Terry’s family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
