WESTBOROUGH – Despite the recent period of heavy rain, there have been no delays on work being conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).

“The project has temporary water containment basins and pumps, which help keep the working areas dry,” said John Goggin of MassDOT’s Communications Office.

Goggin also provided updates on several local projects.

One lane will remain open throughout the duration of the Fruit Street bridge replacement project. Traffic will alternate once the current work phase is finished. The project will be completed by late fall/ early winter of 2024.

As for the bridge that connects Fruit Street to Flanders Road, the rehabilitated bridge is scheduled to open this fall. Crews recently completed beam installation and are now working on the sewer, sidewalks and curbing.

MassDOT is also widening the road to install a new ramp from I-90 West to I-495 North. A wider ramp will allow for improved vehicle acceleration and deceleration, and will provide a dedicated lane all the way up to the exit.
