Lila M. WeihsShrewsbury – Lila M. (Wetherell) Weihs, 82, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She leaves her beloved husband of 30 years, Jerome F. “Jerry” Weihs of Shrewsbury; her loving children, Kathryn M. Goff, of Webster, Paul J. Fontana, of Grafton and Scott A. Fontana and his wife Maryann, of Worcester; three grandchildren, Christopher P. Goff and his wife Sara, of Sutton, Nicholas J. Fontana and Joseph P. Fontana, both of Chepachet, RI; two great-grandchildren, Miles P. Goff, of Sutton, and Levi J. Fontana, of Chepachet, RI; a brother, Peter Wetherell, of Avon Park, Florida; also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen “Chicky” Coughlin, and a brother, John Szewczyk.

Lila was born in Clinton, MA, to the late Clarence and Catherine (Gonelli) Wetherell. She graduated from Nashoba Regional High School. Lila then attended Quinsigamond Community College to achieve her Associates degree and went on to Clark University receiving her Bacholors degree. Still having a passion to learn, later in her life she enrolled in New England School of Law and proudly attained her Juris Doctor Degree.

Lila had an extensive career in the Insurance industry having worked for State Mutual/Allmerica Financial in Worcester for over 30 years, she retired in 1995 as the Vice President of Special Products.

In her free time, she and her husband Jerry, along with their two very close friends, Van & Marcy, traveled the world extensively. She also loved doing quiet things in life, like walking and praying. Lila was a former member of Saint Mark’s Church in Sutton, where she was a Lector for many years.

Lila’s family would like to send special thanks to the entire staff at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care that was shown and given to Lila and her family during her stay there.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lila’s memory may be made to Girls Inc. (www.girlsincworcester.org).

Relative and friends are invited to a funeral Mass celebrating Lila’s life on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours.
