MARLBOROUGH – Green Gold Group recently took over the former Local Roots marijuana dispensary at 910 Boston Post Road East.

It has begun to expand its services, and it wishes to be open longer and have new signage.

While the City Council’s Urban Affairs Committee had no objections to Green Gold’s first two requests, it had some trepidations about the signage.

During its July 31 meeting, the committee discussed whether the new signage could be allowed under current zoning regulations for the district.

James McMahon, the attorney for Green Gold, showed several signs similar to what Green Gold is proposing. Committee members said that several signs had been “grandfathered,” and they would like Green Gold to go through “proper channels.”

“We should do it right,” said Councilor Donald Landers.

In addition to the signage, Green Gold is planning to amend its plan of use, including a dedicated lane for medical marijuana patients, and expand its hours to Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Urban Affairs approved the plan of use and expanded hours, and requested Green Gold to obtain permits for the new signage.

The special permit request has been sent to the city solicitor, and it could go before the full City Council at its next meeting on Monday, Aug. 21.
