Shrewsbury – Bonnie M. (Strominger) Landmesser 82 of Shrewsbury, MA was called to heaven to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Bonnie was born in Petosky, MI, the daughter of the late Charles T. and Mary (Nestor) Strominger.
Bonnie is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 42 years, David G. Landmesser.
Bonnie graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School, Rockford NY, class of 1959. She received a full scholarship to St Joseph Fontanne University in Clayton MO, earning a BA in Elementary Teachings in 1963.
As Sister Bonita Marie OP, she became a sister in the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Adrian MI a congregation of Pontifical Right in 1965.
She began teaching grades 4 and 5 at Catholic School and during this time she attended Sienna Heights Collage and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. In 1971 she decided to leave the convent and pursue other opportunities outside of religious life.
She moved to MA in 1972 and began working in the insurance industry, first at Lincoln National. After many years she retired from Sun Life, Wellesley, MA in the Excess Risk Department.
Bonnie and her husband were active members of St Anne’s, Southborough MA for over 20 years, where Bonnie was a lector and taught CCD and a member of the choir. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, lots of readings, visiting and traveling with her husband David.
In addition to her husband, Bonnie is survived by 3 sisters, Betty Strominger and Cheryl Johnson both of IL, Deborah Thompson of AZ as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Penelope Govert and 4 brothers, John, Patrick, Daniel and Charles.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 4-7 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St, Marlborough, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:30 am in St Anne’s Church, 20 Boston Rd., Southborough, MA. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Mendon, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bonnie’s name to either American Heart Association or to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
