Grafton – Michael R. Vermette, 68, of Providence Rd. passed away at home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 after a long illness. His children were by his side.
He is survived by his son Brian M. Vermette of Grafton with whom he lived; his daughter Janet L. and her husband Jim Paulhus of Douglas; a grandson Benjamin Albert; 2 sisters Carol Boucher of Milford and Diane Forgette of Georgia; a brother Robert Vermette of Ware; and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Northbridge, MA on March 28, 1955 he was son of the late Cagetan R. and Rita Rose (Lucier) Vermette. He was raised in Northbridge and lived in Douglas many years and was a resident of Grafton the past six years.
Mr. Vermette worked at Whitin Machine Works and as a Corrections Officer at the Bay State Correctional Center in Norfolk for many years. He later was employed as a Security Officer at the DCU Center and the David Clark Co. both in Worcester. He retired due to illness. He was educated in the Northbridge public school system and earned his Associate’s Degree from Quinsigamond Community College.
Michael was a NASCAR fan who often attended races in Loudon, NH, Thompson, CT and Seekonk, MA. A lover of classic automobiles, he loved car shows and auctions. Family was most important to Mike, however. When his kids were growing up, he enjoyed vacations on Cape Cod where they would ride bikes along the canal and find the best places for mini golf. He cherished his grandson Ben and family dinners where they were all together.
Mike’s Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 25th at 5 pm in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Douglas. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 4 to 5 pm.
